Message of the Director (ODL)

Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar (Punjab) has established the Directorate of Open & Distance Learning (ODL) in its Main Campus at Amritsar during year 2018-19 with a vision to ‘quality education to all’ and beyond the socio-economic and time/age barriers and thereby facilitating the learners / academic aspirants in their skill development, higher education and career advancement.

Being permitted by the Distance Education Bureau, UGC, New Delhi to offer courses under ODL mode, the Directorate started various courses at Under Graduation & Post Graduation level. The students are provided with quality study material [in Self-Learning Format and usually referred to as Self-Learning Materials (SLMs)] available to the students in e-format at Directorate’s website and in printed format also. The directorate has dedicated web platform that facilitates the all the process of application, admission, payment of a fee, e-content availability, submission of internal assignments, issuing of roll no., declaration of results and application for re-evaluation and issuance of transcript in online mode

In addition to provide SLMs, the Directorate also conduct Personal Contact Programme (referred to as PCP) Classes (on Sundays only) by well qualified and dedicated faculty at our Learner Support Centre(s) (presently 1. GNDU Main Campus, Amritsar, 2. GNDU College, Verka, 3. GNDU College, Pathankot and 4. GNDU College, Jalandhar) for benefits and academic advancements of the students. The Directorate also has plans to further boost the advantage to students and learning with the better use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). We also provide the library facilities for our students.

Syllabi of all the courses are designed under Credit Based Semester System (CBSES) pattern as per the latest guidelines of UGC for ODL courses. Further, the Directorate has made provisions of 20% marks as Internal Assessments. Also, the exams are conducted in a transparent manner by strictly following the stringent quality control of the University and standards set by it and preferably on Sundays to facilitate our students and learners.
