Message of the Director (ODL)

Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar (Punjab) has established the Directorate of Open & Distance Learning (ODL) in its Main Campus at Amritsar during the year 2018-19 with a vision to provide quality education to all, surpassing socio-economic and time/age barriers. This initiative aims to facilitate learners and academic aspirants in their skill development, higher education, and career advancement.

We are pleased to inform you that the Directorate has been granted permission by the Distance Education Bureau, UGC, New Delhi to offer courses under the ODL mode. Since then, the Directorate has successfully introduced various undergraduate and postgraduate courses. Our students are provided with high-quality study material in the form of Self-Learning Materials (SLMs). These SLMs are available to students in e-format free of cost on the Directorate's website, as well as in printed format. Additionally, we have developed a dedicated web platform that streamlines the entire process, from application and admission to fee payment, access to e-content, submission of internal assignments, issuance of roll numbers, declaration of results, and online applications for re-evaluation and transcript issuance.

Furthermore, the Directorate conducts Personal Contact Programme (PCP) classes, conducted by well-qualified and dedicated faculty, at GNDU's main campus on weekends. These PCP classes are designed to provide additional benefits and academic advancements to our students. To enhance the learning experience, the Directorate has plans to further leverage Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). We also offer library facilities to our students.

All the course syllabi are designed under the Credit Based Semester System (CBSS) pattern, following the latest guidelines of UGC for ODL courses. Moreover, the Directorate has incorporated internal assessments, accounting for 20% of the total marks. The examinations are conducted transparently, adhering to the stringent quality control standards set by the University.

We believe that you will have a fulfilling learning experience through the Directorate of Open & Distance Learning at Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar. As a Category-I University (as per UGC's status) and accredited at the A++ grade (highest level as per modified criteria notified on 20/12/2022 by NAAC), your association with our institution will greatly contribute to your academic profile.
